Overview

Lake Nakuru National Park is one of Kenya’s most scenic and accessible wildlife destinations, located in Nakuru County within the Great Rift Valley. Covering approximately 188 square kilometers, the park surrounds the shallow alkaline Lake Nakuru and is renowned for its spectacular birdlife, rhino sanctuary, and picturesque landscapes.

Just about 2–3 hours’ drive from Nairobi, the park is ideal for short safaris, weekend getaways, and combined itineraries with Masai Mara, Lake Naivasha, or Amboseli.

Lake Nakuru gained international recognition for its massive flocks of flamingos that often line the shores of the lake, creating a breathtaking pink shoreline. Although numbers vary depending on water levels and seasons, the lake remains a vital feeding ground for both lesser and greater flamingos.
